CMR Green Technologies forayed into the Wrought Alloy Segment in Tirupati through CMR NLM Eco Aluminium Pvt. Ltd., a Joint Venture between CMR Green Technologies Ltd. and Nippon Light Metal Company Limited (NLM), Japan. The partnership combines CMR’s expertise in aluminium recycling with NLM’s technical expertise in wrought alloys and billet manufacturing.
The world is increasingly focused on reducing the carbon footprint of activities across industries. The global Aluminium industry, from Bauxite mining to Billets/Sheet Ingots/Ingots, is also facing the challenge of reducing carbon emissions and greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming and climate change.
Aluminium is considered Green Aluminium when its carbon footprint is less than 4 MT CO₂e per MT of Aluminium. This is normally achieved through the use of renewable energy, including Hydro and Solar power. However, recycling aluminium is one of the most effective ways to reduce the environmental impact of aluminium production.
Recycled aluminium requires only 5% of the energy and generates only 4.4% of the GHG emissions compared with primary aluminium production — representing savings of approximately 95% in energy and 95.6% in GHG emissions.
The demand for “Green” or “Low Carbon” Aluminium is growing rapidly as industries and end-users increasingly seek to reduce their carbon footprint. CMR’s Green Aluminium Billets offer a carbon footprint of approximately 4 tCO₂e per tonne, while Continuum™ takes low-carbon aluminium even further, achieving a verified carbon intensity of <1.5 tCO₂e per tonne. Continuum™ addresses this opportunity by combining high recycled content with advanced billet manufacturing technology, delivering a new benchmark for low-carbon aluminium.
